On June 1, 2016 our honorable Consul General of Italy in Miami, Gloria Bellelli hosted a private reception at the Coral Gables Country Club for the Italian community in Miami to celebrate La Festa della Repubblica, known in English as Italian National Day. This is national holiday in Italy, formally acknowledged on June 2, that commemorates the day in 1946, on the heels of World War II, that the country voted to transition from a monarchy to a republic. In Italy, there is a parade and formal military procession in Rome, as well as celebrations throughout the country.
In the United States, the holiday is an opportunity for Italian expatriates to join with their Italian American and Italophile friends and celebrate their homeland.
